Berlin/Cambridge, 23 January 2025 – Collabora Online, one of the leading open source office suites for digital collaboration, and OpenCloud, the new open source solution for secure enterprise-grade file management and file sharing, announce their strategic partnership. As part of the collaboration, Collabora Online will be seamlessly integrated into OpenCloud. The solution offers comprehensive options for collaborative work on documents and simple, secure and GDPR-compliant file management. It is aimed at companies, educational institutions, research institutions and public institutions and can be operated in your own data centre or obtained as a SaaS offering from partners.
OpenCloud will be available from the first quarter of 2025 and combines a modern software stack with a user-friendly interface for secure collaboration, easy file sharing and long-term file management. As open source software, OpenCloud is not only available to companies and public authorities, but in the future will also be available to the community and private individuals. The integration of Collabora Online allows users to securely edit documents in all common formats, including Microsoft files, directly in OpenCloud, without having to rely on local applications or file downloads.
The joint solution combines Collabora Online’s comprehensive office suite with OpenCloud’s secure, scalable and cloud-native architecture. Users can share documents, collaborate fluidly in real time on the same document and interoperate with open and proprietary file formats using an intelligent role-based rights concept. Secure versioning protects files against loss, including from ransomware attacks. Collabora Online provides unique security features in which, unlike other solutions, the content of the files does not have to be completely loaded into the browser’s memory. This brings state of the art functionality to our solution required for processing data subject to confidentiality protection.
With their partnership, both companies are paving the way for further joint projects for digital sovereignty and open source innovation – for example, the upcoming joint integration into the equally digitally sovereign video conferencing solution OpenTalk.
